Gooseberry Waterfalls is known as the Gateway to North Shore. It is acknowledged for its remarkable waterfalls, river gorge, Lake Superior Shoreline, Civilian Conservation Corps log, and stone structures and north woods wildlife. In this park you can listen to the very loud roar of the Upper, Middle and Lower Falls of the Gooseberry River as it plummets though the rocky gorge. You can also watch the waves, ships or the moon rise on Lake Superior from an ancient lava flow known as the Picnic Flow. In this park you can also enjoy camping in modern campsites, picnicking and relaxing along the Lake Superior shoreline or the Gooseberry River. Tourist can also hike or ski to see the Fifth Falls through the forest of evergreens, aspen and birch that provide habitat for a variety of birds, plants and other animals. Since the park is along the North Shore flyway, during fall and winter many migratory birds can be seen visiting the park area. You can find park information, interpretive displays, a park video, Nature store and more if you visit and stop by Joseph N. Alexander Visitor Center. You can also visit the Gateway Plaza for outdoor interpretive signs or area resources and history. This park is ideal for group outings, but it will also give fun to families and other visitors of the park.
