Lake Huron Attractions

Lake Huron is the second largest great lakes located in Ontario, Canada and the third largest fresh-water lake around the world. It has the longest shoreline among the great lakes.

Lake Huron shoreline offers a lot of fun activities, events and attractions.  Huron Wind Farm is one of the attractions that Lake Huron is proud of.  It is consist of five wind turbines. In Huron Wind Farm, visitors are welcome to come and view the first Ontario’s commercial wind farm, just west of Highway 21, north of Tiverton in the municipality of Kincardine.  The five 1.8 megawatt turbines supply enough electricity of the province’s grid to power between 2,000 to 3,000 homes in an annual basis. Its turbines are 117 meters tall from ground to blade peak.  It is monitored remotely; the turbines spin approximately 95 percent of time, producing variable amount of electricity that corresponds with the power of the wind.  The Huron Wind Farm shares parking lot and picnic area with adjacent Bruce Power Visitors’ Centre.  There’s an interpretative display that is located near the fence line and information kiosks located in Huron Wind section of the Visitors Centre.  Visitors are welcome at the fence line to view the wind farm anytime and energy presentations are held hourly during the summer months and can be arranged for school or group tours year round.
