The Great Salt Lake

The Great Salt Lake, as the name suggests is a salt water lake in Northwestern Utah. The Great Slat Lake, also known as America’s Dead Sea is far more salty than ocean, six to eight times to be precise. On an average, the Great Salt Lake covers and area of around 1700 square miles, but it can also fluctuate with conditions. Mainly the Jordan, Weber and the Bear are the three main tributaries that deposit water, other than precipitation, into the Great Salt Lake. There is no out-flowing stream from the lake as a result of which slats are deposited back into the lake when the water evaporates.

The Great Salt Lake with its islands is growing as a major tourist attraction. Many visitors find the sunset over the lake mesmerizing as red, lavender, orange, magenta hues dissolve slowly into the horizon.

The lake offers a large variety of activities and thus is one of the most talked about tourist destination in Utah. If your looking for either a cheap motel or 5 star accomodation than Salt Lake City has some great options. Mountain biking, camping, hiking are some of the activities for the adventure seekers whereas others find their share of joy in swimming and sunbathing on the white sands of the lake. The Antelope Island State Park and the amazing wildlife are also one of the attractions in this region.
